Contribution to the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)
AFD interventions in the education sector fall within the framework of the second MDG which targets Universal Primary Education and MDG 3 for all children to have access to this education by 2015. They also match MDG 3 on gender equality and MDG 4 to eliminate gender disparity in primary and secondary education.
AFD interventions in the health sector fall within MDG 6 to combat HIV/AIDS and other diseases (tuberculosis) and MDGs 7 and 8 (to stem the spread of AIDS by 2015 – MDG 7 – and other diseases- MDG 8 and reverse the current trend).
In the urban development sector AFD interventions are in line with MDG 7 (to ensure sustainable development) and more specifically MDG 11: “To achieve significant improvement in the lives of at least 100 million slum dwellers by 2020”.
