Sustainable tourism in Meru National Park

The Kenyan government decided to conduct a far-reaching program to rehabilitate Meru Park via the Kenya Wildlife Service. The main objectives were to restore security and infrastructure, reintroduce species and revive tourist activity. AFD, in partnership  with the FGEF, wished to support the rehabilitation of the Meru protected area by providing technical and financial assistance to KWS. <Find out more>
 


Peace canal to link the Red Sea and the Dead Sea

The project financed by AFD aims to achieve a sustainable management of water resources, preserve Red Sea and Dead Sea ecosystems and foster communication between the administrations of the relevant countries, donor community and public opinion. <Find out more>

Cambodia - Building against the tides

In 1997 AFD began rehabilitating the Prey Nup polders along with Gret and Handicap international. The project is based on the creation of a farmers' association to manage the infrastructure. In a country marked by collectivism and the Khmer Rouge genocide this social construction is truly original. <Find out more>


AFD supports Diambars

Sustainable Forest Management – Congo Basin

Support for Senegal’s Corporate Upgrading Program

Since 2005 AFD has been supporting Senegal’s Corporate Upgrading Program which aims to strengthen the economic fabric and development of the country. It involves implementing an upgrading plan tailored to each company and initial results have been very positive. <Find out more>


Supporting the promotion of Cambodian pepper and sugar

Cambodia’s traditional products are a real source of wealth for the country. Kampot pepper and Kampong Speu palm sugar are two such products. AFD has been supporting a project to promote them and increase their exports since 2004. A pepper producer shares his experience. <Find out more>


Developing and protecting the Ifrane cedar forests

Morocco’s Ifrane province is home to the most beautiful cedar forests in the Mediterranean Basin. They are however now under threat of overexploitation. AFD is supporting a large-scale project to protect these forests in close partnership with local populations and other partners. <Find out more>

Supporting Guinea’s potato exports to the subregion

Union for the Mediterranean

The Minister for Agriculture Michel Barnier launched the AFD's book "Défis gricoles africains",  published by Karthala, during the "Who will feed the world?" Conference, on 3 July in the European Parliament. 1 July: Launch of the French Presidency of the European Union

France took over the Presidency of the European Union on 1 July and over the next six months AFD will be supporting France’s development initiatives. Sharp growth in activities to support sustainable development

AFD further pursued its growth in 2007 with 3.5 million euros of commitments. One billion euros were allocated in Sub-Saharan Africa which remains a priority for AFD. Mozambique: supporting Quirimbas National Park

141 million euros for sustainable development in Tunisia

Growth support Initiative in Africa

Construction of a wind farm in South Africa

A 100 million euro financial agreement with ESKOM, South Africa’s national electricity utility, for the construction of a 100 MW wind farm on Cape West Coast. The farm will be the biggest wind infrastructure in Sub-Saharan Africa and will provide a partial solution to South Africa’s energy crisis. Supporting Mauritius Island’s economic transition

The gradual disappearance of the sugar and textile trade preferences enjoyed by Mauritius led the country to undertake a far-reaching reform program in order to stem the rise in unemployment and regain strong economic growth. Protecting the environment in China

AFD has been operating in China since 2004 and focuses its action on combating climate change.
