French in favour of development aid despite the crisis

The fourth AFD-IFOP poll about the French and development aid reveals that 6 French people out of 10 think that France plays an important role in combating poverty in the world. 66% consider that France’s support to developing countries is justified despite the crisis. Although a majority of French people think that aid is effective, they say it could be made more so by supporting local partners and transferring expertise. <Find out more>

Sub-Saharan Africa:
A priority for AFD

	AFD earmarks almost half of its commitments for Sub-Saharan Africa. It finances projects that aim to generate wealth in order to reduce poverty and create a favorable environment for development. <Discover the new Sub-Saharan Africa portal>
Tunisia: Environmental lines of credit
	AFD and the European Union are working in partnership to set up subsidized lines of credit for Tunisian banks. The objective: to encourage businesses to implement energy management and industrial depollution programs. <Find out more>

I wanted to do something that no one had ever done before and make clothes using local fabric, create a collection and sell what Senegalese craftsmen know how to do best. Africa always comes up with ideas! Scaling up Jordan’s energy capacity

PROPARCO is financing the construction of a 373 MW gas-fired combined cycle power plant to the south of Amman in Jordan. The project will help make a considerable and sustainable improvement to the country’s energy capacity by providing 17% of national production capacities by 2011. <Find out more>
